The sequel to Activision’s flagship sci-fi shooter Destiny made a big splash last year. If you skipped it then but you’d like to play it on PC, go download Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher: Destiny 2 is free for everyone until November 18th.
That’s free as in beer, and free for keeps. Players who claim the game via their Blizzard accounts will get to keep the base version of it forever. You don’t even need to download the game immediately: claiming it on your Windows-powered tablet, previously only used for Hearthstone, will do the trick. To find the offer, log into Battle.net and click the “Gifts” icon in the upper right corner. You can also do it from any browser by logging into Battle.net on the web.
The freebie doesn’t include the recent Forsaken DLC packages or any of the game’s microtransactions, but if all you’re looking for is a high-end campaign mode and maybe a bit of co-op shooting on the side, it will fit the bill. Destiny is a stage-based first-person shooter with a loot focus, sort of like Borderlands, but with more PvP options and less of a humorous edge. Fans of the Halo series should feel at home since the original developers Bungie have been working on Destiny for the last few years.
If you want the PS4 or Xbox One version of Destiny 2, sorry, you’re out of luck: console players still have to pay full price. And Activision is probably hoping to expand its playerbase just to sell more copies of the pricey DLC and in-game purchases. But hey, you can’t beat the price.
